COLONEL JOE O. BELLINO CMDR, 8th TRANSPORTATION GROUP

COL Bellino

Colonel Joe O. Bellino (left) was commander of the 8th Transportation Group, Vietnam, from 1967 to 1968.

He was instrumental in initiating the "Hardened Convoy Concept," and encouraging development of the armored gun trucks.  The yellow-nosed trucks of 8th Group were a familiar sign in convoys throughout the highlands.

The Deputy DCSLOG in December 1968, stated:

"During the Tet Offensive, the 8th Group did more to enhance the Transportation Corps than any other thing since its inception in 1942."
